Citrine is genuine amethyst that obtains its warm, golden-yellow color through controlled heating. The stone is merely heated, without any chemical additives or artificial coatings. In the gemstone trade, citrine is almost always heated amethyst, as natural citrine (the pale, colorless variety) is hardly found anymore and is accordingly expensive.
